VANCOUVER 2010 – Fackellauf / Torch Relay (Teil 2)

Der Fackellauf für die Olympischen Winterspiele in VANCOUVER 2010 gliederte sich in zwei Teile –

den Lauf in Griechenland von Olympia nach Athen und
den Lauf über 106 Tage durch alle Bundesstaaten Kanadas.

Nach den Vorkommnissen während des Fackellaufs BEIJING 2008 hatte das IOC einen “internationalen Teil” untersagt.

Für den Fackellauf wurden keine speziellen Marken oder Sonderstempel aufgelegt. So bleibt als Dokumentation meist nur der Tagesstempel. In dieser Darstellung werden nur einige wenige Stationen des Laufs dokumentiert.

Am 28. Oktober 2009 hatte die Regierung Kanadas bekannt gegeben, dass sie die Beteiligung des kanadischen Verteidigungsministeriums beim Fackellauf unterstützt und eine Maschine vom Typ Polaris CC-150 (Airbus 310) mit einer kanadischen Delegation zur Entgegennahme der Flamme nach Athen gestartet sei. Verteidigungsminister MacKay stellte fest, dass es eine natürliche Verbindung von Uniform, Dienst am Lande und dem Patriotismus gebe, der den Olympischen Spielen inne wohne.

Dokumentationsbeleg von der Visite in Whitehorse im Bundesstaat Yukon: Die Abstempelung erfolgte mit dem Olympia-Sonderstempel (Datum: 3.11.2009), obwohl der Einsatz des Stempels erst für ein späteres Datum avisiert war. Das in der Sortiermaschine aufgebrachte Inkjet-Datum (17.11.2009) lässt auf eine gefälligkeitshalber erfolgte Rückdatierung schließen.

Dokumentationsbeleg von der Olympic Torch Relay aus der Diamantenstadt Yellowknife in den Northwest Territories: Die Abstempelung der Olympia-Sondermarke erfolgte mit einem besonderen Tagesstempel, der auf die 75th Anniversary Homecoming Celebration (YK75) Bezug nimmt, die auf den Gold-Boom ab 1934 zurück geht.

Dokumentationsbeleg vom Besuch der nördlichsten ständig bewohnten Siedlung der Erde, dem Stützpunkt der kanadischen Streitkräfte ALERT (mit der nördlichsten Wetterstation).

Dokumentationsbeleg der Fackelstafette aus der Stadt Iqaluit in Nunavut, dem jüngsten Bundesstaat Kanadas: Der ständig genutzte besondere Stempel zeigt die traditionelle Inuit- Skulptur inukshuk, die in modernisierter Variante Basis des Emblems dieser Winterspiele ist.

Nach einem Abstecher an die Ostküste kehrte die Flamme schließlich wieder nach British Columbia zurück.

OLYMPIC FLAME COMES BACK TO BRITISH COLUMBIA

KICKING HORSE – The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay returned to British Columbia today as torchbearer Peter Lougheed passed the flame to torchbearer Wally Buono. The flame was welcomed by Premier Gordon Campbell and representatives from British Columbia and Alberta at the Kicking Horse Pass.

„This handoff marks the start of the final leg of the Olympic Flame’s historic journey across Canada – a journey that has connected Canadians like never before,“ said Premier Gordon Campbell. „The torch relay has touched the farthest points in our nation and spread the spirit of the Games to hundreds of communities and millions of people. Today, British Columbians are celebrating the return of the Olympic Flame and cheering it on as it heads towards BC Place Stadium to kick off the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in just 22 days.“

Making its way through Yoho National Park, the Olympic Flame was carried by former Alberta Premier Peter Lougheed to the BC-Alberta border. Lougheed then passed the flame to Wally Buono, general manager and head coach of the BC Lions Football Club. Both torchbearers were greeted by Premier Campbell and Alberta’s Minister of Tourism, Parks and Recreation Cindy Ady, on behalf of Premier Ed Stelmach.

„The Olympic Torch Relay has brought Albertans together to share in the glow of Canada’s Games,“ said Premier Stelmach. „As the flame completes its final journey, Albertans and Canadians are embracing the Olympic Spirit and being inspired with a feeling of national pride that will resonate long after the last medals have been awarded.“

Today’s event marks day 84 of the 106-day relay. The flame will continue its journey into B.C. with a stopover and celebration in Golden this evening. The Olympic Flame will spend a total of 27 days in British
Columbia, and during that time, be carried by 3,500 torchbearers. The Olympic Flame will run through 268 B.C. communities and places of interest, 50 of which have been designated as Celebration Communities.

„I am both honoured and humbled to take part in the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay, which has united Canadians from coast to coast,“ said Buono. „As a former resident of Alberta, it is very exciting for me to have been selected to run this particular stage and help welcome the flame back to British Columbia. The 2010 Olympic Winter Games will undoubtedly provide lasting memories for athletes, visitors and all British Columbians.“

„I am honoured to participate in this inspiring Olympic Torch Relay,“ said Lougheed. „We in Alberta are proud of the impact the 1988 Calgary Olympics had on winter sport in Canada and I know that the 2010 Olympic Winter Games will do even more to strengthen the Olympic movement and our Canadian athletes.“

Once the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay arrives at BC Place on February 12 for the Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, the flame will have travelled 45,000 kilometres across Canada, making this the longest torch relay in history to be contained within the Host Country.
